BLOG: Chuck Pagano
All last season, I used to complain that Ravens defensive coordinator Gregg Mattison was too conservative. Word was he was afraid of leaving his corners out on an island with blitzes. The other option is to help the secondary and hope your front four can get pressure on the QB. Terrell Suggs had a good season with sacks but the team only had 27. Too many times opposing teams had too much time to throw and would burn the Ravens secondary. I always said take your chances with pressure and at least that way you may force a mistake.
This year under new DC Chuck Pagano, the Ravens are being aggressive and so far its working. Against the Jets Sunday night, the Ravens defense hounded Mark Sanchez all night long. Terrell Suggs and Haloti Ngata were in his face (and back).
All of a sudden people are saying the old Ravens defense is back...and Chuck Pagano is the reason why.
