BLOG: Brian Matusz
This was the season the Baltimore Orioles were going to take the next step. At least that's what I thought. The Orioles weren't going to be a playoff team by any means, but they were going to be competitive and finish over .500 for the first time since 1997. A big part of my thought process on this was pitcher Brian Matusz. Jeremy Guthrie is the defacto ace of Buck Showalter's staff, but Matusz was going to take the reins and show the talent worthy of become the true ace of the staff. Instead he gets hurt in the spring, has never looked right since he's been back, and after last nights horrible outing in a loss to the St Louis Cardinals, Matusz was sent down to AAA. Without Matusz and Brian Roberts, I'd like to rethink my win total.
