BLOG: AFC Shake Up
Just when you thought you had things figured out in the AFC week five presents, perhaps, a reality check. We all thought the Pittsburgh Steelers were showing signs of fading while the Tennessee Titans were becoming major players. The Steelers reversed those roles on Sunday with a 38-17 beatdown.
The Andre Johnson-less Houston Texans failed to defend their home field while the Oakland Raiders got a very emotional win for Al Davis. That game also shakes things up in the AFC with both teams being 3-2 and the Texans with a big date in Baltimore next week.
What happened to the Cincinnati Bengals and the "Suck for Luck" campaign? They just aren't cooperating. They're 3-2 and tied with the Steelers for second in the AFC North. If I would have said that the Bengals would have had a better record than the New York Jets after five weeks at the beginning of the season, you would have laughed. While I didn't believe in the Jets like some others, I never thought they would have been 2-3.
The Buffalo Bills continued both an AFC and NFC shake up with one win. They are 4-1 and Ryan Fitzpatrick looks to be the answer at quarterback. Their defense, who's hardly talked about, managed to intercept Michael Vick four times. They are tied with the New England Patriots in the AFC East and they have a win over the Pats.
So now, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Tennessee and Oakland are in the play-off picture while the Jets and Indianapolis have two wins combined. That's why we love the NFL.
