BLOG: A Changing Of The Guard In College Park
It looks like Randy Edsall has his quarterback of the future. Or at least the very near future. C.J. Brown, who rushed for a Maryland quarterback record 162 yards last week against Clemson will get the nod against Florida State this Saturday. Brown replaces Danny O'Brien who was 2010 ACC Rookie of the Year. A move that has some Maryland fans feathers ruffled.
Looking at O'Brien's 2011 season, you can certainly understand the move. True, he has completed 62% of his passes, but he has six interceptions and only four touchdowns. Brown, on the other hand, has only completed 46% of his passes but also has four touchdowns but only two interceptions. Brown's also the team's second leading rusher behind Davin Meggett.
By all indications, Brown is Maryland's quarterback for now. You would think that he could either play his way into or out of a more permanent role. Brown has shown ability to make decisions on the fly and use his individual skills to put the team in better situations. Those skills has landed him a chance to be Coach Edsall's guy moving forward.
