Bill Cosby Campaigns For Mayoral Challenger Rolley
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore mayor's race brings Bill Cosby back to the city to reinforce his endorsement of Democrat Otis Rolley.
This is the last week before the primary and political reporter Pat Warren explains it's go time.
What candidate Otis Rolley may lack in political endorsements, he makes up in celebrity. Bill Cosby's endorsement was the first big story in the 2011 mayor's race. Now this return trip is timed when early voters, mostly seniors, are going to the polls.
"And some of you are old enough to remember when you used to be able to sit...in the park without worrying about violence," Cosby said.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who voted early, has the endorsement of Governor Martin O'Malley, Senator Barbara Mikulski, Senator Ben Cardin and Congressman Elijah Cummings. She and State Senator Catherine Pugh have extended their reach to voters through television campaign ads. With the Baltimore Board of Elections predicting a low to moderate turnout, it's even more important for candidates to call as much attention to themselves as possible.
"There was three very different mayors. Y'all know Schmoke was very different from O'Malley and O'Malley was very different from Dixon but those three very different mayors hired me and each one gave me more and more responsibility because I got stuff done," Rolley said.
Early voting continues Thursday.
