Biden Thanks House Democrats For 'Difficult Votes'
CAMBRIDGE, MD (AP) -- Vice President Joe Biden promised House Democrats Friday that the White House would work to improve relations with a divided Congress.
Speaking at a meeting of Democrats on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Biden said many of them had cast "extremely difficult votes" in support of the Obama administration's agenda. He said the administration wants to strengthen relations with the new Congress.
President Barack Obama later flew in on Marine One to visit the diminished number of House Democrats.
Democrats are back in the minority in the House after losing more than 60 seats in a bruising November election that centered on jobs and the economy. Some have said politically unpopular votes to pass the stimulus, health care and climate legislation contributed to the losses.
Democrats held their majority in the Senate.
