BGE Fined Over $400K For 2019 Columbia Gas Explosion
COLUMBIA, Md. (WJZ) -- BGE is being fined more than $400,000 for the gas explosion that destroyed a Columbia shopping center.
The blast happened early on a Sunday morning in August 2019.
Luckily, no one was injured.
The Maryland Public Service Commission says the explosion was the result of a violation of gas and electric regulations.
Besides the fine, BGE also needs to upgrade its gas lines to more than 1,200 buildings to prevent anything like this from happening again.
