BGE Aggressively Preparing For Potential Outages
LINTHICUM, Md. (WJZ) — Maryland utility crews are aggressively preparing for potential outages as a dynamic storm moves through Maryland.
Mike Hellgren has more.
There are scattered outages, nothing widespread. But from the eastern shore to western Maryland, the strong winds are the real problem, and they aren't going away Wednesday night.
Thousands of power workers came together near BWI. More than 600 came from out of state. It's a massive command post and they were ready for the worst.
"If the wind gets in excess of 25 miles an hour, it becomes problematic for our bucket trucks to go into the air," said Rob Gould, BGE spokesperson.
"When you step out and it's bad, it's pretty rough. It'll cut you," said a worker.
In one Pasadena neighborhood, more than 40 BGE customers lost electricity. Crews worked quickly to restore it. It's one of only a few areas to lose power so far.
"We just assume it's going to happen," said one resident.
A continued problem is high wind.
"You gotta be careful. You gotta go easy," said one truck driver.
"I think at the end of the day, it's patience," Gould said. "This is Mother Nature."
It's a last wet and messy gasp of winter.
