Best Softball And Baseball Fields Around Baltimore

Pick up your bat and grab your glove, there are plenty of baseball and softball games taking place around Baltimore. Whether you join a league, or play a pick-up game with friends, swing for the fences at these local fields. -- Lance Duvall

Patterson Park

Week nights between May and September, city slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball leagues take the mound at Patterson Park. Overall, there are four different type diamonds at Patterson Park which are used for both adult and Little League softball and baseball. Little Leaguers, ages 6 through 12, play on one of three 60-foot multi purpose ball diamonds. City-run and private baseball leagues take the field on weeknights and for Saturday tournaments. There are plenty of open fields and playgrounds at Patterson Park for the whole family to enjoy.

Druid Hill Park

Druid Hill Park is one of the oldest landscaped public parks in the United States. Located in Baltimore, Druid Hill Park has close to 800 acres of beautiful landscape. Stepping up to the plate at Druid Hill Park's softball and baseball diamonds is quite special considering the long history of the park. If someone brings up the Cubs and Tigers, they may instead be referring to The Maryland Zoo which is located nearby. After 150 years, Druid Hill Park continues to display team spirit.

Allen Pond Park Complex is an 85-acre multi-use park with an ice arena, picnic areas, amphitheater and six lighted ball fields. Games are played well into the night during the summer season. Softball and baseball play is by permit only, as many different leagues make Allen Pond Park their home. Play horseshoes, basketball and fish around the ball fields. It is a good bet, that when a good, competitive game is being played, visitors will be quick to fill the bleachers.

Facilities at Walker Mill Regional Park include tennis courts, basketball courts, hiking trails, a lighted baseball field and two lighted softball fields. Walker Mill is still being developed as there is more than 470 acres of land. Only a small portion of the park is currently being used for recreational activities, but the community remains very active. For tournament play, plan on a picnic at Walker Mill's picnic area. The woodland surrounding makes for a cool, scenic site for a ballgame.

Rockdale Park

The ballfield at Rockdale Park is not your typical softball and baseball field. It is a field designed for wheelchair and disabled individuals. The National Wheelchair Softball Association play their games at Rockdale Park as it is home of the Maryland Metro Stars. Baltimore's League of Dreams children's baseball league also hosts baseball games for children with developmental disabilities. The complex is one of the most accessible facilities in the country and is home to some of the most exciting softball and baseball games in the area.
