Rodgers Forge, a small community nestled in Towson just north of Roland Park along the Baltimore City/County line, is a neighborhood perfect for and full of young families. Halloween is a production and kids come from miles around to trick-or-treat. The majority of homes are townhome style, making it easy for even the little kids to make it through a few houses. The annual Halloween neighborhood parade draws all of the families and others from neighboring communities.

Just a few miles from Rodgers Forge is Belvedere Square, home to well-known vendors like Ryan's Daughter, Atwater's and several other restaurants and retail shops. The year 2012 marked its free first annual celebration with live music, trick-or-treating with local merchants and a complimentary pumpkin (kids could paint the pumpkins for free at the event). Venture across Northern Parkway into Cedarcroft, a neighborhood filled with families and plenty of door-to-door treats.

Federal Hill remembers that sometimes, adults want to go trick-or-treating too. Nightmare on Fort Avenue trades candy for beers and shots. Last year, for $20, those over 21 took part in the all-day bar crawl with proceeds going to a local charity. Drinks included $2 domestic bottles, $3 imports and $3 house shooters at several Federal Hill and Riverside bars. A costume contest doled out $500 in cash and prizes. For the 2012 event, LivingSocial sold tickets at half-price.

Each year, The Maryland Zoo in Druid Hill Park hosts ZooBooo!, its annual trick-or-treating celebration. On Oct. 25, 26 and 27 from 10a.m. to 4 p.m., kids can make rounds at the zoo for free trick-or-treating, costume contests and entertainment, including carnival games and crafts. Plenty of food options are available, as well. If kids choose to go with costumes, they can partake in face painting for a minimal cost. What could be more fun than trick-or-treating among the zoo's more than 1,500 animals? Regular zoo admission is required, and some activities and games may cost additional fees.

Drive a few miles outside of Baltimore City to The Avenue at White Marsh for its annual Halloween festivities. Participating merchants open doors to trick-or-treaters mid-afternoon, and entertainment is offered. The event ends when the treats run out. Adults and pets are encouraged to dress in costume, as well. With vendors from dozens of restaurants and retail shops participating, The Avenue offers a fun-filled afternoon within a small area, making it easy for kids to participate.
