Many in the Baltimore area have been to the Festival of Lights in Columbia, but if you want to switch it up this year, check out the Winter Lights at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg. The Teddy Bear Village and Victorian Winter Land light displays are sure to warm your heart during this 3.5 mile drive through the park. The display is open from Dec. 2- 31. Each car's entrance fee is dedicated to a local non-profit or charity, keeping in touch with the spirit of holiday giving.

The second weekend in December usually marks Christmas in St. Michaels. Since 1987, residents of this picturesque Eastern Shore town participate in holiday events like having breakfast with Santa, the Gingerbread House Competition and Display and tours of the area's most historic homes. There is no shortage of nostalgic Christmas music at St. Mary's Square. If the winter air gets to you, take comfort in some yummy treats at the Marketplace and Sweet Shoppe at Granite Lodge.

If you are willing to get out of the Baltimore area for a day, you won't be disappointed with the drive out to Grantsville, in Western Maryland. Let the scenic mountain drive take you to the Spruce Forest Artisan Village, an arts and heritage center. Here you can find crafts in every form-- pottery, metal sculpture and weaving are just a few. On Dec. 2 and 3, the village celebrates Christmas Amish Style with cookie decorating, caroling and live music. Stay into the evening when 400 candles are lit throughout the village, celebrating a traditional holiday against a glowing background.
