Best Buy To Close 2 Baltimore-Area Stores
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Best Buy announced they will close two Baltimore-area stores. The store in the Inner Harbor and the one at Hunt Valley are expected to permanently close by May 12.
The stores will be open Sunday, April 15, for final sales.
In a statement, Best Buy officials said, "This was not an easy decision to make. We chose these stores carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way. But we also recognize the impact this news has on the people who deserve respect for the contributions they have made to our business. Employees of these two stores have been notified this morning of the decision. We will be working to help these employees find other positions inside Best Buy. If they don't find new positions, or if they choose not to work at a different location, a transition including severance packages will be available."
Best Buy announced that it would close 50 stores nationwide this year.
Best Buy has 15 additional stores in the Baltimore area, 10 "big box" stores and five stand-alone mobile stores.
