This BBQ joint may be a bit farther north than the rest, but it is worth the drive and you can't miss the pig on the roof. Andy Nelson's Barbecue has been serving mouth-watering ribs, beef, turkey and chicken since 1992. Two of the top winners on the menu are the Memphis-style ribs and pulled-pork 'que. But you can't pass up trying one of the Southern-style sides like the smoky collard greens or the baked beans with a kick. The fresh-brewed Southern sweet tea will top off your meal.
Midtown BBQ & Brew
15 E. Centre St.
Baltimore, Md. 21202
(443) 835-2472
www.midtownbbqandbrew.com
Located in the Mt. Vernon section of Baltimore, Midtown BBQ & Brew serves local and organic, farm-to-table BBQ, burgers, sandwiches, salads and then some. Each original sauce is homemade using a combination of habanero, Thai long hot, jalapeno, serrano and chipotle peppers. Ghost's Revenge, which is the hottest sauce offered, uses a ghost pepper reduction. The BBQ chicken is first slow-smoked in house and then finished off on the grill. To start off, try the Tony's Smokehouse Nachos with jalapeños, pulled pork, shredded cheese and your choice of sauce. The main attraction to try with a friend (or two) would be the Nate & Tony's "Kitchen Sink Platter" with a full rack of ribs, beef BBQ, half a chicken, pulled pork sandwich, smoked sausage, french fries, mac and cheese, cornbread and the homemade sauce sampler.
