Baseball: National Pastime Or Past It's Time?
Why Baseball, Why?!
Why must you torment all your Loyal Fans with lousy channels and start times for these epic October Postseason battles?
The Wildcard Games, a couple of games from the Royals-A's Series, and who can forget the marathon Nat's-Giants game from last week, all were almost missed by yours truly due to an angry bewildered channel surf. I basically stumbled upon these games and most of the time they were already in progress!
C'mon baseball, TBS, Fox Sports 1 & 2, MLB Network, seriously? What is this Alphabet Soup? I thought I was done with that in Elementary School.
Baseball wonders why Football has surpassed them in popularity and ratings. There are plenty of reasons why, but I guarantee you one of which is availability. Hell, even if you don't have cable you can watch Football! Trust me I know, times are tough for a brotha out here, but at least I can still watch some Sports on "Normal TV".
I was only 2 years old when the Birds won it all in 1983. But I definitely remember the Playoff Runs in the 90's and watching all the games in a group with my then teenage friends. Oh, how I long for those simpler times.
But hey, at least The World Series will be on Fox.
With all that being said, this has been one of the best Baseball Playoff runs I've ever seen. The Cinderella Royals. The Well-Oiled Machine Orioles lead by the absolute BEST Skipper in Baseball. On the National League side of things, it's business as usual with the Giants and Cards. And I must admit seeing the overpaid "Best Pitching Staffs" go down in flames has been gratifying (See Dodgers, A's, Tigers).
So even when Baseball sabotages itself with weird start times and awkward channels, the pureness of the game always saves the day.
