Bank Of America Awards Grants To Local Nonprofits & Recognizes Local Heroes
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Two Baltimore-based nonprofit companies have received $200,000 each in unrestricted grants and leadership training from Bank of America.
Maryland New Directions, which provides comprehensive career counseling, employment assistance, and post-employment support to low-income job seekers in life and career transitions, and Village Learning Place, which promotes literacy and education through a free neighborhood library and computer lab, are winners of Bank of America's 2011 Neighborhood Excellence Initiative.
Bank of America also recognized five Local Heroes selected for their commitment to the highest standards in community service. Each Local Hero received a $5,000 donation that can be directed to the nonprofit charity of his/her choice. Local Heroes are:
- Karen DeCamp, of Baltimore, is donating her funds to GHCC/ York Road Partnership
- Michael Mazepink, of Baltimore, is donating his funds to People's Homesteading Group
- Cathy McClain, of Severn, is donating her funds to The Cherry Hill Trust
- Lewis Sharpe, of Baltimore, is donating his funds to Baltimore Green Space
- Angelo Solera, of Baltimore, is donating his funds to The Latino Providers Network
