Baltimore & Maryland Leaders Congratulate The Ravens
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore and Maryland political leaders heap congratulations on the Ravens.
Political reporter Pat Warren caught up with some who talked about their experience watching the game and what the win means to Baltimore.
"They put Baltimore back on the map again," said Baltimore City Council President Bernard "Jack" Young.
With their back against the wall, the Ravens played to a 34-31 victory.
"Boy, that goal line stand was just a white-knuckle ride," said Comptroller Peter Franchot.
"It was touch and go there," said Congressman John Sarbanes.
"Oh, yeah, I got very nervous," said Congressman Elijah Cummings.
Young, however, said he knew the Ravens were destined to win.
"I was emailing people, letting them know. `Hey, don't get nervous,'" Young said.
"Flacco said we've been in that situation so many times that we know how to handle it," added Sarbanes. "What a way to end that game."
Cummings said the Ravens' win should be an inspiration to all.
"I think anybody who is trying to inspire people should look at what the Ravens did and say `You know what? You're never down and out. You can always rise and reach the highest heights,'" Cummings said.
And celebrate when you get there. The city will welcome the team with a parade Tuesday.
"Last night, I watched on the news all of the people that were in downtown Baltimore," said Young. "And we're going to do this thing and show the Ravens how much we care and how much we appreciate them bringing another world championship back to Baltimore."
