Baltimore's Washington Monument Lights Up For The Holidays
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- In Mount Vernon Thursday night, holiday spirit lit up the sky with the much-anticipated lighting of the Washington Monument.
Kai Jackson has all the holiday magic.
Organizers say this year's show was bigger and better.
The Washington Monument lights up Mount Vernon, and fireworks lit up the night sky in Baltimore Thursday.
Jackson: "What do fireworks look like?"
Six-year-old Kierra Elliott: "Different rainbows."
The annual Washington Monument lighting brought out a huge crowd. And it was a special day. It's the first day of December and the 40th anniversary of the special celebration that actually started out quite humbly, as just a gathering of a few neighbors.
"People just want to come here to be together, outside on a cool winter's night and have a nice time to ring in the holidays," Mike Evitts of Downtown Partnership said.
So the consensus from the audience: The fireworks this year were great, and the weather wasn't bad either.
"Last year was really cold," Diana Mitchell, a Mount Vernon resident, said. "And I've been to a couple where it was below zero. This year, it was nice. I mean, it was warm during the day. It was great!"
The Morgan State University Choir and City College Choir sang holiday favorites.
