Baltimore's Anne Tyler Is Literary Award Finalist
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Anne Tyler has been named one of 13 finalists for a literary prize that has a cash prize of more than $96,000.
The Baltimore Sun reports the 69-year-old Baltimore woman is a finalist for the 2011 Man Booker International Prize, which is given for an author's body of work and continuing contributions to world fiction. The winner of the prize will be announced May 18 in Sydney, Australia.
Tyler has lived in Maryland since 1963 and many of her novels have been set in Baltimore.
She received the Pulitzer Prize in 1989 for "Breathing Lessons," her 11th novel. She also was a Pulitzer finalist for "Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant" in 1983 and "The Accidental Tourist" in 1985.
