Baltimore Ravens Release Veteran Eugene Monroe
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore Ravens have released veteran offensive tackle Eugene Monroe.
The Ravens held Monroe out of this week's mandatory minicamp while they sought a potential trade partner. After the Ravens drafted offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley in the first round in April, this move seemed rather inevitable.

Releasing him means the Ravens save that $6.5 million in salary-cap space, though are hit with $2.2 million in dead money this year and $4.4 million in 2017.
During the offseason, Monroe became very vocal about medical marijuana use and became the first active NFL player to openly campaign for it. The Ravens did not rally behind the cause.

"I promise you, he does not speak for the organization," Head Coach John Harbaugh said earlier this offseason.
It seems both the Ravens and Monroe were ready to move on.
