Baltimore Ravens Players & Fans Donate Toys To Needy Children
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Some of Baltimore's favorite Ravens players are making their own holiday rounds, collecting gifts for children who otherwise might not get them.
Kai Jackson has more on the outpouring of holiday spirit from the players and the fans.
The excitement of a new toy and the magic of a smile that comes with it. That's what area children will be treated to thanks to the Baltimore Ravens and their generous fans.
They donated to the first Torrey Smith toy drive at Dogwood Elementary School in Woodlawn.
"People don't have what we have, and if give we can support them we can make them happy," said Isaiah Nunez, who donated toys.
"We're in the giving season. And us being athletes we're in a great position and it's our responsibility," Smith said.
At Jimmy's Seafood on Holabird Avenue in Baltimore, more Ravens teamed up for a toy drive. The battle tested United States Marines led the drive for their Toys For Tots program.
"We're gonna be able, as a group today, to put a smile on 23,000 kids' faces," said John Minidakis, Jimmy's owner.
All of these toys will be taken to the Toys for Tots warehouse located in Towson. From there they'll be distributed to children in need.
"So a lot of these kids they don't have a Christmas without us. And the fact that we can give that back to them and really make a difference in their lives, it's just huge," said Sgt. Michael Fahey, U.S. Marines.
"It would mean a lot, especially for kids that are less fortunate. There's nothing like a smile on a child's face," said Michelle Harvey, who donated toys.
The U.S. Marines collect for the Toys For Tots program all year round.
