BALTIMORE -- Baltimore Police are trying to identify two people in a video in reference to a deadly shooting in a Federal Hill alleyway early Saturday.

Christian Leight, 24, was shot and killed just around 1:45 a.m. According to the dispatch call recording, police responded to the alleyway near Mugshots Bar on E. Cross and Marshall streets.

Officers were on foot patrol when they heard gunfire coming from the 1100 block of Marshall Street. Leight was found suffering from gunshot wounds before he was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead.

"It's unfortunate"

WJZ obtained security video from a building nearby which shows a fight break out just before shots were fired.

Sean Moore, a neighbor who lives in the area, said he bikes to the Cross Street Market regularly and never expected something like this to happen there.

"Every time I come here, I feel really safe," Moore said. "I always see the presence of police on Charles Street, on Light Street. It's unfortunate that we have to have those kinds of barriers put up when we go to places."

A memorial now sits where video shows the shooting occurred.

Safety protocols

Debra Dutton, who works at Pizza di Joey in Cross Street Market, which stays open to serve slices out of their to-go window until 2:30 a.m., said they closed early after the shooting.

"[Protocol includes] Close the window, we hit the lights, and everybody like Joey's told us, just get behind something, don't worry about any of our equipment or anything, just take care of you," Dutton said.

Dutton was also working in September 2023 when an off-duty Howard County Sheriff's deputy was shot and killed in the neighborhood.

Residents in this area believe it is safe, but that people need to be vigilant everywhere they go.

"It's a great neighborhood," Dutton said. "I definitely don't think it will be defined by it but we just got to keep a head on a swivel, you got to be aware of your surroundings."

Anyone who knows the two in the video should call the police at 410-396-2100 or the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
