Police: Safeway Security Guard Shoots Allegedly Armed Shoplifting Suspect In Ankle In Charles Village
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore Police responded to a reported shooting at the Charles Village Safeway Monday morning.
Officers responded around 9:06 a.m. for a shooting in the 2400 block of North Charles Street.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his ankle.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that an armed security guard at the grocery story confronted a man he believed was shoplifting.
The guard noticed a gun in the man's possession and there was a brief struggle. That's when the guard shot the man in the ankle.
A WJZ employee captured the scene outside the Safeway, where an injured man was being rolled into an ambulance. The man was conscious and yelling that he was unarmed as he was lifted into the ambulance.
No one else was reportedly injured, according to police.
