Baltimore Officials May Sweeten Casino Deal
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore officials are trying to entice potential developers of a city casino by offering additional cash and assurances.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the new deal would allow the winning bidder to make required infrastructure improvements using up to $6 million from a pot of money created to ease the impact of the casino on surrounding neighborhoods. The casino operator would also get more time to decide how much land it needs.
The new terms are scheduled to be considered by the city's spending board on Wednesday.
Baltimore is the only one of the five locations in Maryland approved for slots in which the winning bidder must negotiate deals with both the city and the state.
