Baltimore Officer Pleads Guilty To Extortion
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A former Baltimore police officer has pleaded guilty to extortion under color of official right in a towing scheme.
Jermaine Rice, 28, of Woodstock entered the plea Tuesday in federal court. He will be sentenced in September. According to his plea agreement, Rice was told he could make extra money by referring vehicles damaged in accidents to a repair shop instead of a city-authorized towing company as required.
Prosecutors say Rice received a total of about $1,500 in the scheme.
