Baltimore Man Pleads Guilty To Identity Theft
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore man has pleaded guilty to identity theft five years after being convicted of the same crime.
Lavon Caldwell, 31, entered the plea Monday, the third day of his trial. He faces a maximum of 38 years in prison at sentencing Feb. 20.
Prosecutors say Caldwell used personal identifying information from five people obtained without their knowledge or consent. Authorities say he obtained credit accounts and bought or tried to buy more than $70,000 worth of merchandise, including Hermes sweaters, Gucci bags and electronics.
Caldwell was convicted in 2007 of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft and was sentenced to 61 months in federal prison.
