Baltimore Man Charged With Fatal Stabbing Of Local Funeral Home Owner
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A man who made a living for himself by burying the dead is now Baltimore County's latest murder victim. He was found dead inside his car.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on the victim and suspect.
The victim owned a local funeral home. Baltimore County police are calling this a homicide.
His family and friends are in mourning. The suspect is in jail.
Mark Brown Jr., 20, sits behind bars with no bail, charged with first-degree murder.
Baltimore County Police say Brown and the victim, 52-year-old Phillip Weatherford, were driving back from Harford County early Monday morning but neither made it home.
"They got into an argument as they were driving southbound on Pulaski Highway back from Hartford County. At some point, Mr. Brown produced a knife," said Cpl. Cathy Batton, Baltimore County Police.
Police were called for help in a dispute that would turn to murder.
When Baltimore County police pulled up to Weatherford's SUV they found him bleeding from multiple stab wounds.
"He was transported to Bayview Hospital and he died several hours later at the hospital," Batton said.
Weatherford owned Phillip Weatherford Funeral Home on Oliver Street in Baltimore City. WJZ tried to speak with friends and family of the victim, but they were too upset to speak.
Police say the suspect and the victim were acquaintances but would not say how they knew each other.
Police say robbery does not appear to be the motive in this crime.
The victim's fiancée says they were to be married next month.
