Former Baltimore Raven Ray Lewis Honored With Hall Of Fame Parade
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Ravens Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis was honored with a parade in Baltimore Saturday morning.
Hundreds of fans gathered along the route to watch Lewis make his way to City Hall where his Hall of Fame bust was there for all to see.
The route started at the Inner Harbor, with the former linebacker riding in style.
Lewis waved to fans along the route, beaming and shaking their hands. He even gave one woman a kiss.
Mayor Catherine Pugh proclaimed September 22 as Ray Lewis Day in Baltimore City.
Lewis gave a speech at City Hall, and promised to always support the city of Baltimore.
"It shows you the love Baltimore has and who we are as people, it's unbelievable," Lewis said. "Baltimore took me in at 19-years-old,"
His daughters were alongside him.
"We love this city, this city is our family, people don't understand how much he loves Baltimore but he loves it here," His daughter said.
At one point he even asked that people hug one another and the fans did -- one even hugging a Baltimore City Police officer.
It's a poignant moment in a city that has seen contentious moments between officers and residents.
"Every time we saw something can we touch someone to display love, can we just give a hand of love, turn to the person you don't know and give them a hug, Baltimore we're a city of love," Lewis said.
The parade comes the day before the Ravens take on the Denver Broncos at M&T Bank Stadium on September 23 where Lewis will receive his ring.
