Baltimore Fans Protest NFL Lockout
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- As the future of next season's football schedule hangs in the balance, fans across the country are demonstrating against the recent lockout of players.
As Gigi Barnett explains, Ravens fans joined the fray.
An NFL stalemate between players and owners leads to nationwide protest by fans.
"It just blows my mind how they can't decide what to do with all of that money between them. It just blows my mind," said Ravens fan Sharon Schluter.
Earlier this month, contract negotiations between players and team owners broke down. That caused owners to lock the players out. Since then, nothing has turned the situation around and fans are in an uproar about the upcoming season.
"You can't take us for granted for so long and fans do matter. We are part of the partnership and we want to be included instead of excluded," said Ravens fan Captain Defense.
Fans from longtime rivalries like the Ravens and the Steelers say they're willing to put their differences aside for now to bring football back. They say they want players and owners to do the same.
"Without football, we can't have a rivalry. I can't hate a Steeler unless they play," said Ravens fan Kirk Moyer.
The last time fans saw an NFL stoppage was back in 1987. Fans didn't have the help of websites to launch nationwide protests back then. Now several Facebook pages have popped up demanding an end to the lockout.
"Think about us. Think about the ones that pay you," said Ravens fan Sandy Taylor.
Protests are being held outside of stadiums around the country, including Seattle, Pittsburgh and Miami.
