Baltimore Entrepreneur Launches Innovative Wireless Security Product
More venture funds are allocated to cyber security start-ups in Maryland than in any other state. In fact, Michael Geppi's cyber start-up, Integrata Security was the recipient of an initial grant from the Technology and Development Fund TEDCO when Integrata rolled out their specialized wireless security product.
Geppi is the CEO of Integrata and brings to this role an interesting and diverse background. He has a B.S. from Towson University in political science and communications; an M.P.A. (Masters in Public Administration) from the University of Delaware and an M.B.A. (Masters in Business Administration) from the University of Md. - Robert H. Smith School of Business. He became the youngest person ever elected to the Harford County Council and went on to become a Gubernatorial appointee in several economic development positions, including security sensitive posts at the Port of Baltimore and the BWI Airport.
What inspired you to enter your current field?
"I've had a passion for entrepreneurship and public service my entire life. Ronald Reagan really inspired me when he said 'Too often, entrepreneurs are forgotten heroes.' I knew that I wanted to start and run businesses, but I also wanted to help create an environment that embraces our business owners, rather than exploiting them."
How does your educational background relate to your current role?
"In my current role as CEO of Integrata, I can honestly say that my education comes into play every single day. In particular, the skills advanced by my M.B.A. are written on the huge whiteboard in my office – from accounting and finance to corporate strategy, marketing, and human capital."
How has your education/training helped to further your career and contribute to your success?
"My education has played a significant role in advancing my career by giving me the ability to understand complex concepts and develop an extensive network of professionals throughout Maryland and the broader region."
What is some advice you can offer others looking to go into your field of endeavor?
"There are plenty of successful people who have limited education. I believe, however, that a quality education increases one's probability of success. It is also an excellent foundation for learning how to learn. All any employer really wants is an employee who has the ability and the willingness to learn how to do a job effectively."
