What inspired you to enter your current field?
"I have been in technology my entire career. I see my role as a blend of technology and business issues. Cyber security is one of the few technology areas that has a direct impact to the bottom line of a business."
How does your educational background relate to your current role?
"The technology industry has a very strong training component. I am able to use my previous experience as a college instructor at CCBC and Hopkins to both evaluate how well the training worked, and I use my business experience to evaluate the cost/benefit of training. My degrees help me understand the joint impact."
How has your education helped to further your career and contributed to your success?
"I don't feel that I would have been selected for this role without the educational experiences and degrees; I would have been limited to the technology area only. The joint perspective allows for a more holistic understanding of the organizational issues. For example, an equipment purchase or a software development decision can now be accompanied by a business plan and a present value calculation."
What is some advice you can offer others looking to go into your field of endeavor?
"Spend time figuring out what you enjoy doing. If you are currently in business and want to get into technology, figure out the aspects that you might enjoy (product marketing, product management). Conversely, if you are in technology and want to branch into business, see if you would enjoy business analysis. This would allow you to explore some additional areas without sacrificing your current position."
