Baltimore County Police To Resume DNA Collections
TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Baltimore County's police chief has directed officers to resume DNA sample collections from people charged with crimes of violence.
Police Chief James Johnson directed the collections to resume at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The decision follows an order from Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, who temporarily blocked a Maryland court ruling that had effectively barred the collection of genetic material from criminal suspects without a warrant.
Roberts' order was issued at the state's request in the case of Alonzo King, Jr.
Roberts said his order will remain in effect at least until King responds to the state's arguments. Roberts set a July 25 deadline for the response.
