Property Manager Murdered Inside Reisterstown Townhouse Complex

REISTERSTOWN, Md. (WJZ) -- Horrifying discovery. A woman murdered inside the leasing office of a Reisterstown townhome complex.

Now, investigators are trying to track down her killer.

Meghan McCorkell has the latest on the investigation.

It was the property manager who was found dead inside her office. At this point, police aren't saying how she was killed.

Police descend upon this Reisterstown townhouse complex.

"There was a whole lot of police cars and an ambulance and I think the police had their guns drawn," said Brian Pinskey, neighbor.

A custodian found a woman murdered inside the leasing office at the Townes of Harvest View.

Management identifies her as Melinda Schaefer, who worked there.

"I talked to her a couple times. She just did all the housing work for us and she sent people into the house if there was something messed up," said Mareco Edwards, neighbor.

Detectives are now going door to door in the area, asking neighbors if anyone heard or saw anything suspicious.

Investigators haven't made any arrests.

"Many times, these kinds of situations involve people who know one another. We don't know for sure if that's the case," said Elise Armacost, Baltimore County Police. "We will certainly be looking at whether or not this was a random crime."

Neighbors, trying to figure out who would do this.

"I'm thinking what everybody else is thinking: a lover's quarrel. But probably not. Maybe somebody got evicted, it's tough to find a place to live. I have no idea," said Brian Pinskey.

In a letter to residents obtained by WJZ, the property management group says:

"We are working closely with the Baltimore County Police Department in their investigation and will share official information just as soon as it is provided to us."

Police are now trying to put together a timeline to figure out exactly when the murder happened.

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
