Baltimore County Police Get New Cars With $1.3M Investment
TOWSON, Md. -- (WJZ) -- Baltimore County Police have a new crime fighting tool that will soon be policing the streets.

Policing Baltimore County streets is about to get easier.
Thursday, the department unveiled its newest crime fighting tool.
"This was a very significant step for us in public safety and certainly one that I think will enhance our ability to further reduce crime in Baltimore County," said Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson.
Fifty Ford Interceptors will join Baltimore County Police's 450 unit fleet, replacing the Crown Victoria model officers have been driving since the 1990s.
The addition is a $1.3 million investment in public safety.
"We will roll out the cars over the next several years so that each car is replaced," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenentz.
Johnson says many of the current patrol cars have thousands of miles on them. Once the cars reach 100,000 miles, it's time to start thinking about getting them replaced.
Police say the new units are faster, fuel-efficient and overall better performing.
These new and improved police cruisers come equipped with a read-out that tells you everything that's going on with the car.
"You're looking at the car of the future for law enforcement," said Johnson.
The first 50 vehicles will begin hitting Baltimore County streets in December.
The old Crown Vics will be sold at auction as they are removed from the fleet.
