Baltimore County Police Captain Charged With DUI
HAMPSTEAD, Md. (AP) -- A Baltimore County police captain has been charged with driving under the influence in Carroll County.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office set up a sobriety checkpoint on Hanover Pike in Hampstead on Saturday night, St. Patrick's Day. Capt. Matthew McElwee was stopped and refused to take a breathalyzer test.
The Baltimore County Police Department said in a statement that McElwee was driving his personal vehicle and not carrying a weapon when he was arrested.
The 43-year-old has been placed on administrative duty pending the results of the case and an internal investigation.
