Baltimore Co. Police Seek Help Finding Missing Russian Woman
BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) -- A Russian woman set out on a trip to Baltimore, only to vanish just miles from her destination. Kelly McPherson explains the woman was coming to town to visit relatives.
Baltimore County Police suspect foul play in the disappearance of the woman, who went missing more than two months ago. They're asking for help finding out what happened to her.
Police spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough said Tuesday that Yulia Pogrebenko, 54, arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Feb. 23 and rented a car to drive to a relative's home in Catonsville. The last time she spoke to a relative, Pogrebenko said she was an hour from Baltimore. Her car was found, but she hasn't been heard from since. Police won't say where the car was discovered.
"As best we can tell, she traveled down I-95 to the Baltimore area," McCullough said. "That's the last place we can track her to."
McCullough says foul play is suspected, but police are asking for the public's help finding out what happened.
"I can't believe it has to do with anyone here," said Lou Allen.
"The interesting thing to me is that this happened several months ago and nobody's mentioned it," said Rhonda Chase. "It just seems a little bit odd."
