Woman Shot While Trying To Pass Cars Engaged In I-695 Road Rage Dispute
Parkville, MD (WJZ) -- Police are desperate for witnesses to come forward after a woman was shot on 695 during a road rage incident she was not apart of.
This all played out Sunday in busy afternoon traffic near Parkville. Police say an innocent driver became a moving target.
According to police, two vehicles became involved in a road rage incident while traveling on the inner loop of I-695 at just after noon on Sunday.
The vehicles involved are described as a white, work style van with no rear windows and a black Nissan sedan which could also possibly be an Altima or Maxima manufactured in the early 2000's.
Investigators say at the dispute continued between the two drivers when a third vehicle attempted to pass them. At that time, a suspect inside of one of the vehicles fired a shot in the direction of the third vehicle, striking the driver.
Then victim is described as a 58-year old female who was transported to an area hospital and remains in very serious condition. Police say the victim was driving a grey 2018 Subaru Outback.
"It's early in the investigation but it's our belief that the Subaru was not involved in whatever altercation was happening between those other two vehicles at the time," said Baltimore County PD Lt. Andrea Byles.
Her passenger was able to give details to police, but not a single witness pulled over. Neither did the shooter, or the white work van involved in the dispute.
The shooter in this incident is believed to be a person inside of the back Nissan sedan.
All lanes of traffic on I-695 on the inner loop near Harford road were shut down for several hours while this incident was being investigated.
Police are now asking anyone in the area of Harford Rd. on 695 at that time to come forward.
