Baltimore Co. Cleans Up After Record Flooding In Maryland
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore County did not escape the ferocious flooding.
As Jessica Kartalija explains, the cleanup there is just beginning.
In Baltimore City, the water under a bridge flowed very high. In Woodberry, fortunately, none of the area structures was threatened, even though the water level was much higher and faster than usual. But other areas in Maryland didn't fare so well.
In Lochearn, Queen Anne Road was a rushing river.
"It's pretty amazing how Mother Nature does this," said Buddy Davis of Baltimore County.
Crews cleared mud and debris from Cromwell Bridge Road near Loch Raven, where severe flooding made roads impassable in central and western areas of Baltimore County.
In Middle River, houses badly damaged by the murky water were condemned.
"I don't have money to cover this. I'm done," Baltimore County resident Carolyn Harden said.
In Baltimore City, the Mt. Washington Mill area was evacuated because of the rising Jones Falls. Fortunately, most of North Baltimore handled the heavy rains well.
In Howard County, home video shows the raging water rushing through Ellicott City.
"It came down Main Street and the flood just went all through the town. And many of the buildings in the 8200 to 8500 were flooded," David Robbins, a business owner in Ellicott City, said.
Now, some are hoping to salvage what they can.
Emergency officials are warning drivers to stay off of the roads and avoid the flooding, saying as little as six inches is enough to carry a car away.
