Baltimore City Police Investigating Overnight Shooting On 'The Block'
BALTIMORE, MD (WJZ)-- Baltimore police are investigating a shooting that injured a 42-year-old man, according to authorities.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 400 block of East Baltimore Street around 1:28 a.m. on Sunday.
Once there, they located a 42-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the back and upper arm.
Medics transported the man to a local hospital where they are listed in stable condition.
This shooting comes just days after state Senator Bill Ferguson said the state and city will work together to find new ways to prevent violent crime in the area.
Ferguson stopped short of moving forward with legislation that would attempt to close businesses on "The Block" at 10 p.m. after objections from business owners.
This is the fifth time in the past seven months that someone has been shot near Baltimore Police Department headquarters, according to police records.
An officer shot a man in the 400 block of East Baltimore Street on Aug. 12, 2021, per police records. Just two days later, on Aug. 14, 2021, a 28-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were shot in the unit block of Gay Street.
Police records also show that a 20-year-old man was shot in the 400 block of East Baltimore Street the following month—on Sept. 17, 2021.
