Baltimore City Officer Sentenced In Towing Scheme
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore city police officer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in a towing company extortion scheme.
A statement from the Maryland U.S. Attorney's Office says Samuel Ocasio, 37, of Edgewood was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake for conspiring to commit and committing extortion under color of official right. Ocasio also received three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay restitution of $1,500 to the Baltimore Police Department.
The attorney's office says Ocasio was one of many city officers paid by the owners of Majestic Auto Repair Shop in Baltimore County to send customers to their shop instead of to a city-authorized company.
