Baltimore City Hearing On Plastic, Paper Bag Fee Canceled
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— The Baltimore City Council Judiciary and Legislative Investigations Committee was set to hear the pros and cons of a fee on plastic and paper bags.
Pat Warren reports the hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning was canceled.
Every plastic and paper bag distributed by city retailers--including grocery stores and mini-marts would be subject to the fee.
The bill, introduced by Councilman Brandon M. Scott, originally called for 25 cents per bag but has been reduced to 10 cents.
If the fee on bags passes, Baltimore would join roughly 100 communities in the country that have banned plastic bags or imposed a fee on them.
