Baltimore Bike Path To Link Harbor, Penn Station
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore transportation officials say a new bike path will connect the Inner Harbor and Penn Station.
They say the bike path, expected to be completed in about 16 months, will also fill in a missing link on the city's portion of the East Coast Greenway, a 2,800-mile network of paths from Maine to Florida.
The $3.5 million path will start at Lee Street, go around the Inner Harbor to the Fallsway and up to the train station. A concrete and belgian-block median will separate the bicycle path from automobile traffic.
The Baltimore Sun reported that city officials estimate about 250 bicyclists use Guilford Avenue as a north-south commuting route. They say having a safer route that ties together existing trails should encourage more bicycle commuting.
