Baltimore Battles Pittsburgh In The Boxing Ring On Friday
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- One of the best going rivalries is Baltimore and Pittsburgh. The bitterness between the two towns is rooted in the annual battles between the Ravens and Steelers, and Friday night, the rivalry enters the boxing ring.
Mark Viviano has more.
At the Baltimore Boxing Club, the fighters are getting ready for a night of matches against the Pittsburgh Pugilists in an East Coast championship card.
Baltimore's Jerome Featherstone is one of our local fighters who will be taking a swing at steel town. He's a Boys' Latin School of Maryland grad, a former wrestler and a U.S. Marine who decided to take up boxing, and his talent quickly caught the attention of trainer Jake Smith.
"I've seen talent in this kid right off the get-go," Smith said of Featherstone. "I mean, he's just something to come and see. I'm telling you. I think we have a world champion with this kid."
"I'm just going to go out there and do what I'm working on and try to perform to the best of my ability," Featherstone said.
Baltimore fights Pittsburgh in the boxing ring on March 23 at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie at 7:30 p.m.
