Avocado Prices More Than Double What They Were Last Year

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Bad news ahead for avocado lovers.

Wholesale prices on the pitted fruit are more than double what they were just a year ago.

Avocados from Mexico now cost a whopping 129 percent more.

Most of that is being passed onto the U.S., with retail prices almost doubling.

The price spike is blamed on growing global demand and a natural seasonal dip in production.
