Authorities: 4 Dogs In Cage Abandoned On Annapolis Road
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — Abandoned on the side of the road. Police in Anne Arundel County are trying to figure out who would leave four puppies alone in an Annapolis neighborhood.
Jess Kartalija has the latest.
Left in a crate by the side of the road, someone left four puppies alone in the cold. A concerned citizen noticed the dogs, and called police.
"Unfortunately, when the officer patrolled, the officer wasn't able to find any puppies in a crate or running around the area," said Robin Catlett, Anne Arundel County Animal Control.
The next day, officers found a post on social media--a woman rescued the puppies and took them home to keep them safe.
"Once they arrived here, we began our investigation," Catlett said.
This is the second incident involving abandoned dogs in Anne Arundel County in just weeks.
Last month in Glen Burnie, five malnourished pit bulls were found abandoned and chained to posts in a wooden area off Freetown Road. Another dog was found dead, frozen to the ground.
"For a person to be able to do something like this, to an animal, what could they possibly do to a human being?" said T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Anne Arundel County Animal Control officers took the dogs to a shelter. Unfortunately, they won't be up for adoption because of their poor health.
As for the abandoned puppies…
"They already have lots of potential adopters lined up. So we are expecting at the close of this case, they will be able to go home very quickly to their new homes," said Catlett.
The puppies remain in protective custody as the investigation continues. They will be up for adoption soon.
Anne Arundel County police are asking for help identifying the owners of the dogs.
