Author James Patterson Funding Towson University Scholarships
TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Author James Patterson will be giving scholarships to a handful of students at Towson University who plan to be teachers.
The school announced this week that Patterson will provide eight scholarships of $6,000 to incoming freshmen who want to be teachers.
The inaugural Towson University James Patterson Scholars will be chosen this fall. Recipients will have to show a strong academic record in high school, have a financial need and plan to be education majors with a focus on developing reading skills. Patterson intends to continue to fund their studies as long as the recipients meet Towson's standards and stay on the teaching track.
Patterson, whose mother was a teacher, has established education scholarships at more than a dozen schools, according to his website.
