Arrest Made In Baltimore's Memorial Day Quintuple Shooting
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police say a hit man for hire opened fire at a Memorial Day cookout, injuring five people---and that same suspect is linked to another high profile investigation.
Meghan McCorkell spoke with one of the victims.
David Warren was arrested last year when police raided an organization meant to fight crime in the community, but all charges were dropped against him.
Police say 23-year-old David Warren is a member of the Ten Grand Club, a gang of hit men for hire.
"He's a person of interest in more than one crime of violence," said Commissioner Kevin Davis.
Investigators say Warren was inside a car and opened fire on five people who were having a cookout along East 43rd Street.
"I wasn't paying attention. I was just trying to get out of there," said one of the victims.
That victim---who didn't want to be identified---told WJZ he never saw who shot him. He was hit in the arm.
"It's okay. I can't really use it or move it that much but it's alright. I'm still living so I'm happy for that," he said.
Police say Warren had a fight with one of the victims the day before. Investigators tracked him down through a tip from the community and say he was carrying two guns when he was arrested.
Warren was one of nine people arrested last year when a raid of a Safe Streets office turned up seven guns and multiple drugs.
This March, prosecutors dropped charges, saying they didn't have enough evidence to move forward. And Warren isn't the only one linked to the Safe Streets raid who is facing new charges.
Five days ago, 26-year-old Barak Olds was arrested. He's accused of trying to kill a man along Caroline Street in mid-May.
"What's happening to these people we are arresting who are illegally carrying firearms in our neighborhoods? Are they going to jail? Are they facing consequence?" Davis asked.
As for Warren, he now faces five counts of attempted murder.
Investigators are looking into whether Warren is responsible for a number of other shootings. He will face a judge for a preliminary hearing at the end of this month.
