Arrest Made In Armed Robberies At Maryland Live! Casino
HANOVER, Md. (WJZ) --Anne Arundel County police have arrested a suspect they believe is behind two armed robberies at Maryland Live! Casino.
Paul Johann Morin, 32, of Bowie, was arrested Monday and now faces a slew of charges, including armed robbery, robbery and second-degree assault.
"I want to thank the detectives who worked quickly based on the information they received to bring this case to a closure," said Chief of Police Kevin Davis. "Without our partnership with the casino and the vigilance of the witnesses, we would not have been able to bring this case to such a quick resolution."
The arrest comes just a day after a man approached a 71-year-old woman at the Maryland Live! Casino just before 8 a.m. Sunday. They say he had a knife and tried to take her purse, but she would not let it go.
A 35-year-old woman also told police she was in her car in the parking garage when a man pointed a knife at her, opened her door and took her money.
Neither woman was injured. The suspect fled the scene.
"It's pretty unusual. We haven't seen this kind of crime occurring at this casino. We have a great working relationship with the casino security," said Lieutenant T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police Dept.
Still, police ask people to be vigilant.
"Be aware of your surroundings. If you see somebody suspicious, wait for another opportunity. See other people and travel with them in groups and try not to isolate yourself," Smith said.
