Are The Orioles Upset With Kim's 1-For-24 Start?
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Orioles signed Korean outfielder Hyun Soo Kim in December to a two-year contract worth $7 million to attempt to "beef up" the lineup.
Kim has had impressive numbers, but sadly, the Orioles are still waiting to see some signs of life from him during spring training. He started the Grapefruit League season in an 0-for-23 slump before beating out an infield single Thursday.
According to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles may be growing impatient with Kim. Here's what manager Buck Showalter said on Wednesday:
"It's just, I know what 0-for-whatever looks like," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "You look at things other than that. He is pressing. I think there are some things you'll see look a lot differently when he gets a couple under his belt, but this is the big leagues. It's competitive and it's unforgiving. It's an unforgiving place."
Showalter indicates Kim is not guaranteed to have a spot on the Opening Day roster. They could give him time in Triple A if the team is not happy with his timing and approach closer to the start of the regular season.
