Appeal Set For Lacrosse Player Convicted In Beating Death Of Yeardley Love
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The appeal of a former University of Virginia lacrosse player convicted in the slaying of his ex-girlfriend is set to be heard this week.
The Court of Appeals of Virginia has scheduled a hearing Wednesday for George W. Huguely V. The Chevy Chase, Md., man is appealing his second-degree murder conviction in the beating death of 22-year-old Yeardley Love in May 2010 in Charlottesville. She was from suburban Baltimore.
Attorneys for Huguely base their appeal on several claims. One states the trial judge erred by seating jurors who had expressed strong views about the case or issues related to the slaying.
Huguely was convicted in February 2012 by a jury in Charlottesville. Huguely and Love each were University of Virginia lacrosse players.
A judge sentenced Huguely to 23 years in state prison.
