Fire On Chesapeake Bay Bridge Creates Traffic Nightmare
STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- A fire on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge creates a traffic nightmare for commuters.
A thick cloud of black smoke was first reported around 6 p.m. Sunday coming from the highest point of the bridge.
Authorities believe a construction area under the westbound span caught fire.
Traffic in that direction was completely shut down for several hours, causing major delays.
One lane on the eastbound span of the bridge was also closed.
Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what caused the fire.
